Our story: Apartment Carmen Soline — more than just apartments
Some houses are built as an investment. Ours — today Apartment Carmen Soline — grew out of a quite ordinary family wish: to have a place where we could spend our summers, gather family and friends around us and enjoy the calm that the northeast coast of the island of Krk offers.
Construction began back in the 1980s, at a time when houses weren't built so quickly. The walls were built almost twice as thick as they needed to be, because our parents always said: "Better safe than sorry." We often laugh about it today, but it's exactly thanks to that philosophy that the house has stayed solid, secure, and cosy all year round.
In 2000, the original idea for a holiday home turned into something quite different. Instead of one large apartment with a basement, a house with three separate units came to be. One became our own home, while the others were meant for family and friends who liked spending their holidays on Krk.
Very quickly, we realised we wanted to share what we had with other people too.
So "Apartment Carmen" was registered in 2002, received its official classification, and with that began a tradition that has now lasted more than two decades – welcoming guests from all over Europe.
A lot has changed since then.
Drone Footage · 2020
This footage is from 2020 — the green area next to the house has since been built up, so the surroundings look different today. We keep it as part of our story.
The apartments and the house get a little renovation almost every year. Not because we have to follow trends, but because we believe our guests should feel even more comfortable than the year before.
We've renovated the interior, modernised the bathroom, replaced the windows with triple-glazed PVC ones, fitted a security entrance door, and added a new thermal façade that now keeps the indoor climate pleasant all year round.
We're especially proud of our covered private parking with two spaces, giving our guests security and shelter for their vehicles throughout their stay.
In 2025 we took another step that was especially close to our hearts.
A solar power system generating our own electricity was installed on the roof of the house. This not only reduces our environmental impact but also lets us offer our guests electric vehicle charging, making Apartment Carmen attractive to travellers who choose a more sustainable way to travel.
We believe that protecting nature isn't a passing trend, but a responsibility toward the place we call home.
We take just as much care with our garden.
Lavender, rosemary, bay laurel, everlasting flower, hibiscus and grapevines weren't planted just for their looks. They carry the scents of the Mediterranean, reminding us every day why we love living right here.
Who are we?
We are Denis and Robert.
Denis
A retired homemaker who loves nothing more than the smell of freshly baked cake filling the apartment. She loves books, flowers, tending the garden, and the small details that make guests feel welcome from the very first moment they step inside.
Robert
He's also retired; he's a technician and takes care of everything that isn't immediately obvious but makes all the difference. He looks after the upkeep of the house, the appliances and the technical systems, is always looking for new ways to make guests' stays easier, and is happy to share tips on the island, fishing, hiking, and hidden spots most tourists never find.
We don't live off tourism. We live side by side with our guests.
That's why we're always happy to help – whether you need a restaurant recommendation, a hand planning a day trip, a tip for the best beach, or just fancy a chat over morning coffee.
Four-Legged Family Members
Sony, an Irish Setter born in 2022, is part of our family too.
He's calm, gentle, and loves children. Many of our young guests mention him in the
guest book
as one of the fondest memories of their holiday.
Before him, Ari, also an Irish Setter, lived with us for thirteen years, and many of our long-time guests still remember him with great fondness.
That's why we have particular understanding for guests travelling with pets. We know how important it is to find a place where they're truly welcome.
Why Soline?
If you ask us why we chose Soline, the answer is quite simple.
For the peace. For the nature. For the people.
While some holiday spots get crowded in summer, Soline has kept exactly what people once came to the Adriatic for – the quiet, the clear sea, the unhurried pace of life, and the feeling that time moves more slowly here.
In the morning you can stroll along the seafront, have a coffee on the terrace, explore hidden coves, take a trip around the island, or simply enjoy the sunset – all without noise or rush.
That's exactly why so many of our guests come back year after year.
And that's exactly why, when you arrive, we don't welcome you as a booking number,
but as guests we want to feel truly at home.
