Hair Salon ZEN – A Place Where a Haircut Becomes Part of Your Style
If you're on holiday, you surely want to look your best. Whether it's a dinner by the sea, a morning coffee, a night out, or you simply want to freshen up your look, you'll struggle to find a better spot than Hair Salon ZEN in Polje.
The salon was founded in 2016, and behind it is our Jelena – or as we all call her, Jele. We've known each other since our days together in the carnival group "Optimisti". Back then, we made masks for the Rijeka Carnival, but even more important than that was the time spent together, the sense of community, the laughter, and the friendships that have lasted to this day.
She opened her Zen hair salon in Polje more than 10 years ago and worked alone for 6 years; in 2022 she hired an assistant, so for the last 4 years she's been working alongside her.
The salon is open Monday to Saturday in shifts: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1pm to 8pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am to 3pm, and Saturdays from 8am to 1pm.
Her assistant is at the salon every day, while Jele is there from Wednesday to Friday, since she's since gotten married and moved to Istria – but everything still runs smoothly.
And it's exactly that sense of warmth and closeness that has stayed alive in her salon.
Jelena isn't a hairdresser who'll just cut your hair. She first looks at the shape of your face, the thickness and quality of your hair, and how it falls naturally. A good haircut isn't just a matter of scissors, but a balance between face shape, volume, hair texture, and your own personal style.
These days there are dozens of cutting and colouring techniques – from the classic bob, lob, and pixie cut to modern layered cuts, balayage, airtouch, babylights, contour colouring, or full colour transformations. Most of you, like me, don't know the names of all these techniques, but that really doesn't matter. It's enough to bring along a photo of a hairstyle you like.
Leave the rest to Jele, and trust me, the result will be surprisingly close to what you had in mind.
As for me…
Even though I'm already 66, I feel a few years younger every time I leave the salon. I don't know whether it's the cut, the great atmosphere, or that perfect head massage during the wash, but I admit I especially look forward to that part.
As for the colouring, that's where a real little art form begins – watching Jele mix the colours always reminds me of an old Croatian comedy sketch about someone whisking eggs with such theatrical flair it turns into a whole performance.
With her it's not eggs, of course, but hair colour – yet the result has almost the same effect.
Our guests from Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Czechia, and other European countries will be especially pleased, because alongside the professional service, her prices are still a pleasant surprise.
Just don't be surprised if you have to wait a little for a free appointment. Good hairdressers all have one thing in common – they rarely sit around with nothing to do.
If you'd like to see her work, new colours, transformations, and daily posts, be sure to check out her Facebook page.
And one last little tip…
If you mention that Robert from Apartment Carmen sent you, I can't promise you'll get seen right away… but it's worth a try.
